Ariadne is a Pre-Greek mythological princess that falls in love with a
man named Theseus. Ariadne's father captured Theseus to feed/appease the
Minotaur. The Minotaur was trapped in a great labyrinth and the plan was
to trap Theseus in the same labyrinth. To save her beloved Theseus,
Ariadne fashioned a thread that Theseus tied to his belt so he could
find his way back to her through the labyrinth. Theseus killed the
Minotaur, returned to Ariadne, and they sailed away. The story continues
but you get the gist of it.
Since our guild
membership spans the spectrum of Fiber Arts, we wanted a name that would
apply to everyone. The common thread was the "thread", whether you are
spinning, weaving, knitting, or even sewing it. In a sense each member
is a thread, hence "threads". We learn from each other, try new things
and have great time visiting.
As for the
Ariadne part . . . Life is one big labyrinth to navigate. We all need a
little of Ariadne's magic once in a while to find our way back to what
we love.
